Christmas Day, a little bit late....

So we flew to Wellington on the 21st, and arrived at Laura's grandparents house about 15 mins later,... They live in an old house (well as old as anything can be in a country so young !!), on a hill overlooking the harbour, port, and the airport... It is sooo nice :)

So we spent some time doing touristy things in Wellington, like going to the top of Mount Victoria and looking out over the whole of Wellington, and seeing the city on one side and turning round to see the port and the sea... Was nice... We also went to Te Papa which is the museum in Wellington, and we looked around that for a bit, but we went especially to see the Pompeii exhibition... That was real interesting, but slightly strange to be on the other side of the world and see an exhibition of something that in relation is so close to home !! haha... However, the most exciting part of my time in Wellington, was going to the area of coast where Helms Deep from Lord of the Rings was filmed... It actually looks very strange, its just a cliff and a rocky beach and then the sea... Anywho, i still stood exactly where Legolas said to Gimly... 'Do you want me to describe it to you, or shall i get you a box'... Haha... Laura and I re-enacted the scene :)

So then it came to christmas eve, and i had to go to church, which was the worst experience of my whole entire life !! When we got home, it was quickly in to bed and sleep, otherwise santa wasnt going to come...

On christmas day, we all woke up real early apart from Bradley, so we woke him up and then went to open all our pressies... Was fun.. After that we went to Lauras Auntie and Uncles house for the day where there were more pressies and we had christmas dinner... This was interestin, because it was served in a buffet style.. So we all just helped ourselves to everything, and there was a lot of salad and stuff, but i stuck to all the traditional parts, which were there too :) and they even made gravy for me :) :) :) because they knew that northern girls love gravy and they dont even like it, so i felt dead special :)

Ermmm then on boxin day we got in the car and started our 6 hour drive to Ohope Beach :)
We had set things up the week before so it was all sorted when we got here, and it was boiling, so we jumped straight in the sea :)

Since then we have just bummed about at the beach... We went to see the lovely bones and sherlock holmes at the cinema, they were both good :)

Errrm tomorrow its New Year Eve and we are going to our friends beach house in Waihi... So that should be gooooooood :)

I will be the first person in the family to see in New Year.. a whole 13 hours ahead of UK and 11 hours ahead of Cyprus.. So be thinkin of me :)

Love you all... Xxxxxx

End of Term

Ok, so its the end of term... YAY !
Term finished on thursday, and after a prize giving assembly that went on wayyyy too long, it was time for all the kids to bugger off, and all the staff to hop on the bus to the secret location of this years staff end of term lunch... This year it was at a winery, called Viligrads.. It was sooo nice, all drinks were on the school tab and then we had a gorgeous buffet style lunch.. Yummy.. So after that we went to Daves house (IT teacher), and had the after party there until about 10.30... Then Laura, Andrew and I went back to the flat so i could get changed, and then we headed into town..
At about 2.45 we decided that we had had enough of town and headed back to the flat, on the way we all decided that swimming in the schools outdoor pool would be a mean idea... So that happened and after showering and warming up we all snuggled up in the living room to watch DVD's until about 6.30am !!! Poor Andrew had work at 9 ! haha.. He didnt turn up till like 11 though.. Ooops, im not a bad influence :)

Not much else happening apart from headin to the beach most days, until we fly to Wellington on the 21st and stay with Lauras grandparents for Christmas :) xxxxx

Over a week late !!

Ok so this is the post that was meant for last weekend... I was on duty with a real cool teacher, and on Sunday we went to a Fijian Catholic group's Christmas fun day..
When we got there, they were playin loads of sports games like touch and football etc, they also had party games for the smaller kids, and races... even an egg and spoon race !! It was sooo cool..
The weather wasnt great, but it held out... just ! It started rainin about 15 mins before we got in the taxi...
So that was saturday... Then sunday it poured down all morning, so we just went to the school gym and played indoor cricket and other random games in there, and then went to the computer lab with the kids for a while, they all love it... Computer nerds...
After lunch, the sun kinda came out, and then we went to the park for a little bit, stoppin off at macdonalds for afternoon tea...

Thats about it... Hmmm only a week and a bit left now...
Love you xxxxxx

Round the Bridges!

So on Sunday 15th November, me and my friend, Laura, did a 12km race called 'Round the Bridges'.
It was quite fun, which was a huge suprise... I walked most of it, but it was a powerwalk, so not just dawdling... Overall I reckon i ran about 5km of it... In little sections...
As i was running down the finishin straight, which was the main street in Hamilton, the commentator called out my name, and was like:
" This is Charli Brunning storming down the finishing straight right now, she is all the way from England. She must be listening to a good song !"
I was smiling as i crossed the finish line because as i ran over the line Frank Sinatra came on my iPod singing 'New York'... I was so happy, cuz this is the song that Laura and I had been singing the 'eventful' night before...
Anyway, so here is the link so you can all see my break down... http://results.nz.eventdirector.net/View.asp?EventID=3701&Bib=1400

It wasnt a great time, but I now have a time to beat, so that when i do the next one, i have something to go for....

Oh and any of you 'Ironmen/women' who might be reading this, dont laugh at my pained face !! It was hard for Tommy and Tabitha !! Haha

Labour Weekend...

So the last weekend was labour weekend out here, which was SWEET as it meant a long weekend, with school finishing at lunchtime on friday and no school on monday :)
So the fun started on friday night... When we had a little party at our flat instead of going out into town... trying to save money !! We had a few friends round and ended up watching films from about midnight ! Interesting end to the evening!
Then on Saturday we woke up bright and early (10am) and headed out to Waihi... Its a beautiful little town on the East Coast of New Zealand, where our friend, Hannah has a bach (holiday home).. We spent the day there lazing about on the beach and on the deck at her house... OMG... When i was quite innocently walking along the beach, i saw something in the distance, i ran (well kind of waddled) over and saw a sharks head ..... an actual SHARKS HEAD !! It wasnt very big, but that still means that there is something out there that is bigger that managed to remove the head from the body !! It was one of the scarie things ever, and if people think that i will be gettin in the sea at any point this summer, then there is goin to have to be money involved in it !!!haha... What a joke !! a sharks head :O
I even got my first New Zealand sunburn with factor 20 suncream on !!!! Shock horror.. After this incident, when i was complainin to anyone who would listen, i was told that there was a handy little hole in the o-zone layer right above New Zealand which is why i burned... As if havin red hair, freckles and fair skin wasnt just enough... This furthers my belief that there is NO GOD.. otherwise i would be gettin a break somewhere along the line... hahah.... Sorry mum :S
Anyway.. So saturday night we were all tired after our exposure to the sun... So we watched Disney films all night, much to Michaels dismay... Me and Laura thought it was the best thing :)
Sunday we went to Mout Maunganui... Its another beach area which is named after a little mountain that is right on the beach... Its soooo nice, the rich peoples playground by the looks of the houses out there... WOW...some of them were amazing...
Monday, we decided we had spent wayyyyy too much money over the weekend, and the weather wasnt great, so we stayed in the flat and just chillaxed... Much needed after the long weekend and the kids gettin back that night...

What a Night...

Ok so last night was our friend, Amy's, last night in NZ... She is goin to live in South Africa with her boyfriend...
So we all went to her house for a huge house party, after that we headed to town...
Its a good night, everyone is havina good time, then Laura is pushed over by some loser guy who we dont know and she really hurts her knee... So i said, being the amazing friend that i am, that i would go home with her..
So one of our sober friends drove me and her back home... It was only then that we realised we didnt have our keys, they were in the flat, and the doors were locked... So me being th only non-crip, decided that i would scale the wall, and climb through Laura's open top window, to get the keys from her bed and then open the door for her...
Oh what a sight that was, im sure you can imagine... Just thank god i was wearin shorts!!
Anyway, so i managed it, but now... the morning after and i have a huge cut and a bruise on the back of my leg, and a huge bruiseon my bleg.... (mummy n daddy you know what i mean)...
Quite the adventurous end to the night i would say !!

Kiwi Experience... Part Three

Day 11- Poo Pub to Franz Josef Glacier
Today the bus left at 9am, and we had a long journey through the Southern Alps through to Franz Josef town. I had a killer migraine which was hell, so pretty much as soon as we got there i went to bed, hoping to be better by the time we were booked to do our glacier walk the next day. Not very exciting really.
Day 12- Franz Josef
Turns out i wasnt better in time for the glacier walk... There were a couple of people who didnt do the walk, so i wasnt on my own, but still felt bad cuz i couldnt do it, and i had spent the past 2 years of A level Geog learning about them !! Anyway, i just relaxed today and didnt really do much, did some laundry which desperately needed doing, and slept/read... The only good thing about where we were staying was that i could see the glacier from my window.
Day 13- Franz Josef to Wanaka...
Well its back to raining today... We stopped at a lake where we should have been able to see a mirror image of Mount Cook and Mount Tasman reflected into the lake, but because of the clouds being so low and the pouring rain, we couldnt see anything... There was an hour long walk that we could do here, only about 5 people did it, the rest of us sat in the cafe and drank hot chocolate/coffee trying to warm up !!

Once we had come in off the coast, and over the Southern Alps on the Haast Pass, the sun came out and it was beautiful... but still cold..We drove past Lake Hawea and Lake Wanaka which were both carved out by glaciers...

They are so pretty! When we arrived in Wanaka, we just relaxed and walked around the tiny town to take pics etc... The snow capped mountains surrounding the Lake were just gorgeous... Tonight we just watched films..

Day 14- Wanaka to Queenstown
We arrived in the party capital of New Zealand quite late on in the day... Its a beautiful mountain resort... Sooo expensive though... Tonight was our last night with our driver, so it was a BIG night out!! So much fun though... Really love it here..

Day 15- Queenstown
Today we got a free breakfast, and as breakfast finishes at 10.30am, we set our alarms for 10.20 and stumbled down in our pjamas piling our plates high as they cleared away...We then all went back to bed until about 1pm... Then we got up, showered and changed and headed out into the town to explore... We found a really nice park to relax in and we all sat on the grass and ended up falling asleep in the sun! Tonight was a chillax night again, because its pub crawl night tomorrow night (and our last night in Queenstown)...

Day 16- Queenstown...
Today was a late start as well... We all got up and went to sit down by the lake and relax... Then did nothing for the day... Just relaxing outside in the sun all day really.. We came back and got shwered and changed etc then got ready for our big night out tonight on the pub crawl... Which was amazing... Loved it... Very late night !

Day 17- Queenstown to Christchurch
Today we had an early start which wasnt appreciated but hey... We had an 8 hour journey to start... We covered 500km! We arrived in Christchurch at about 5pm! We looked around the city... Its so much like the UK its wierd... All the places are named after places in the UK, like the main river that runs through Christchurch is called the River Avon... The street names in Christchurch are after towns n cities in England and there are suburbs called Oxford and Brighton! Wierd eh!?!?Well, after walking around for a bit, we got something to eat, and showered and ready for bed... Just sat about talking tonight... It was the last night for most of us... Including me n mike.. Tomorrow we fly back to Hamilton!!
The trip has been amazing ! I have absolutely loved every bit of it... Seen some amazing things and been to some amazing places that i will defo have to take mum, dad and lauren when they get down here...

Kiwi Experience... Part Two

Day 8- Wellington to Picton to Nelson
Well today was interesting... Like i said, very late night of birthday celebrations... When we eventually went to bed, we forgot to set an alarm, one fo the people in our room, woke up and was like 'Oh bugger' and then shouted at us all to get out of bed... We were meant to be on the bus, ready to leave for the ferry thismorning at 7, it was 7 now... We all threw everything in our bags and ran downstairs and out to the bus still in our pjamas!! We made it just in time... Phew!
We got onto the ferry and guess what its STILL pouring down... As we got on the ferry we found a place to make base for us all, in the bar!! There was Sky sports on TV, so we saw England beat SA in the cricket and then slept... we all slept the 3 hours it took to get from Wellington to Picton... We then got on the bus, picked up a few new people, and drove 2 hours to Nelson, a cute little city, the geographical central point on NZ.. We walked up a little hill there to the actual point that is said to be the centre of NZ... The hostel we stayed in tonight gave us a beer tasting activity... I hate beer, so i just went to watch, at the end the guy asked us a question about what he had been telling us and i was the first to answer and got it right so i won a free bar crawl in Queenstown (for when we got down there)... That was sweet as !! We then played darts, I cant aim, so i just threw them vaguely at the board and didnt do that bad at all.. I came 2nd out of 5 of us playing... Then we watched a film and went to bed...

Day 9- Nelson to Westport

We left Nelson, and drove through a load of glacial valleys to a random lake where we did a small walk... After that some of the guys decided it would be a great idea to jump in the lake!! Crazy Fools.... We carried on driving through glacial valleys until we reached a town called Westport, which was given the nickname 'wetport', guess what... ITS STILL RAINING!!

Day 10- Westport to Lake Mahinapua

Today we drove from Westport down to the biggest town on the West Coast, Greymouth. When we got here we all decided on a theme for our fancy dress party tonight- tight and bright! We raided the church shops and charity shops for random outfits and i managed to put together an outfit for $4!! Not bad i think !! It was definitley tight and definitley bright... and i didnt win!! What a joke!!

We carried on driving from Greymouth to a place called Punakaiki.. This place is famous for its pancake rocks..

We went on a small walk, which was really nice because the weather was sunny and quite warm today... So being the British tourist that i am down here i donned the old shorts and t shirt!!

After this, our destination was a little pub/hostel in the middle of nowhere. This place is run by the oldest publican in the country, Les age 86! The place is called 'The Poo Pub' and is notorius to all backpackers in NZ... Here we had a huge meal.. Steak, veg and venisen casserole ! YUMMY!! After eating, we went to get ready for tonight!! The pic on the right is me and Mike, the other guy who works at the school with me!

Kiwi Experience... Part One

Ok, so most of you know that I have been away on a trip called the Kiwi Experience.. Its been amazing! Basically, for those of you who dont know, its a huge road trip covering both the north and south islands of New Zealand... It took us 17 days, and i thoroughly enjoyed every single day, even when i was ill !!!

Day 1- Auckland to Mercury Bay..

We got picked up in Auckland at 8.30am and set off for the Coromandel Peninsula. We stopped after about 2.5 hrs and had lunch in a small ex mining town called Thames! This was much needed as we didnt have time for breakfast thismornin due to our early start... When we arrived at Mercury Bay, we went for a little walk down onto the beach, we stayed there for a while, the weather wasnt great, cloudy and miserable... But we still managed to paddle in the Pacific Ocean, which was pretty sweet, seems really exotic! Once that was done we walked back to the bus and drove for about half an hour to Whitianga where we stayed for the night.. After tea (spag bol) we went to a place called the Lost Springs which is a man made natural hot pools. I know that seems to contradict but what i mean is that the natural hot mineral water is under the ground, the guy just built the hot pools... Hmm whatever...

Day 2- Mercury Bay to Rotorua..
We left Whitianga at 7.30am, which wasnt as bad as i thought it would be. A long day on the bus lays ahead of us. We stopped for a little leg stretch at the Karangahake Gorge, and went for a little walk through the old gold mines there, which was nice apart from the fact it was raining.
This was just enough to wake us up, before we were back on the bus. Our next stop was in Matamata for lunch, which was made famous for being the setting of Hobbiton in the Lord of the Rings films.

Then it was back on the bus for the last hour of our journey into Rotorua. Once we were there i headed down to the lake and read in the sun for a bit.
Tonight we went to a Maori Experience Night. It was amazing, we ate a 'hangi' a traditionally cooked Maori meal, which involved all of the food being buried underground in a pit with boiling rocks around it, for a couple of hours, and then served up for us to eat. It was sooo nice ! Then we were entertained by the Maori family that run the place. We saw dances and other activites that the Maori people used to do.
Day 3- Rotorua to Waitomo..
If you have read my blog before then you will know that i have already been to most of these places, but thats just cuz im really cool. Once we get a bit further south in the north island, we get to places i havent been before. Haha..
So today we drove from Rotorua to Waitomo, the main activity here is caving and black water rafting, not many people did this, however the ones who did absolutely loved it. I chose not to because one of my friends has a voucher for 2 people to do it, and she has asked me to go with her, so that means that i wont have to pay the $120 that all those who did it today had to pay!
Tonight i decided i wasnt going to drink, so i became judge of all the drinking games! It was so much fun.. I loved it !
Day 4- Waitomo to Taupo..
We had a late departure today which was nice. Then we had a three hour drive to Taupo! I love Taupo, its one of my favourite palces in New Zealand. It poured down the whole journey there, its miserable, we havent had any sunshine yet! We explored Taupo in the rain, before going back to the hostel, getting showered and changed before pre drinks in our room, before heading to the local Irish bar (love it)... Had an awesome night there, not much sleep, but we have 2 nights in Taupo, so can sleep in tomorrow.
Day 5- Taupo
After a lay in, waking up for lunch, it was still pouring down, getting worse throughout the day, so we stayed in and played board games all day !! Haha... Fun.. Tonight there is a pjama party in the bar next to our hostel, so we got ready for that...
Had an awesome night ! Loved it !!

Day 6- Taupo to River Valley
A long drive South today to River Valley. Everyone slept most of the way, we arrived in River Valley at about 4.30pm. The lodge we stayed in was in the middle of nowhere, there was no signal, and it was so close to a river that we could here it from our rooms. Most people used this as an excuse for an early night because there was nothing to do here.
Day 7- River Valley to Wellington
After lunch, we left River Valley on our longest drive yet, 5.5 hrs to the capital, Wellington. Again, most people slept on the bus, we arrived in Wellington in time for tea. After that we all went out because it was one of the girls birthday.. So that was fun.. Back to the room for 5.30, due to leave on the ferry at 7!!!

Video from All Blacks vs Springboks

The Mighty Haka... Even from behind it looks amazing !!

Well What a Weekend !!

Well what a weekend… On Saturday I had a lazy day until about 6 o’clock when we left for Waikato Stadium, to watch the All Blacks vs Springboks… ! Then on Sunday we went on a little road trip out to the East Coast to Waihi Beach, stopping at various places on the way.

Saturday.
OK so lets get the girly stuff out of the way first… I really didn’t know what to wear to the All Blacks match. I was going to wear my England shirt, but then thought I quite value my life at the moment, so got changed, then one of the 12 year old boys in the boarding house offered me his All Blacks shirt, which was out of the question… So I ended up wearing the Falkland Islands Rugby shirt that Daddy got me from his latest holiday down there…
Right, now to the good bit… We were in an area of the stadium called the Green Zone, which is an all standing area… So when we arrived we made our way straight to the front eager not to miss a moment of what was coming up! Once we had a firm spot, and had decided that the far corner was a good place to be we joined in the festivities that were happening all around us while the rest of the stadium filled up. There was a crazy Maori man who spoke no English and insisted on doing the haka every 2 mins… It wasn’t the traditional haka that the AB’s do, it was some crazy one of his own I think! Then there were the South Africans who had all travelled to see the match. They were setting up large camps which they moved between throughout the match. All the SA fans were in fancy dress, whether it was a minimal face painting or having the national flag wrapped around them like a toga!
So before the match started there were some dance performances which were ok… It was then time for the national anthems. I have learned the NZ national anthem both the Maori part and the English part, so I was quite proud of myself when I sang all of it without making mistakes at the match. It gave me shivers to hear all of those people sing the anthem, but nothing compared to when I hear good old God Save the Queen being belted out by the Barmy Army! Then it got to the point where the AB’s got into position, ready for the part I had been waiting in anticipation for since I got to NZ, let alone got the tickets… THE HAKA!!! It was amazing. They were facing away from us, but even from behind it looked awesome… That really got me geared up for the match and I was so excited to have seen it performed right in front of me!
The All Blacks got of to a decent start, with Danny Boy taking the pen for 3-0 in the opening minutes of the match… It all went downhill from there though.. To be honest, I thought the AB’s were going to get trashed, but they played so well…. You really don’t notice how big the players are until you see them up close… They are HUGE!!
The best part of the match for me was when the God like figure of Richie McCaw caught the cross field kick and scored the try, it was 5m in front of me… I tried to film it on my camera and I caught all of the build up to the try and even followed the cross field kick, then as soon as I saw Richie get the ball I went insane and was jumping all over the place. So the film, as you can see below isn’t that great! Haha…
Anyway, as you all should know, SA won the match and therefore won the tri nations…

After the match we went back to the flat to get changed and head out into town, we thought it would be full of South Africans celebrating, however it was absolutely heaving with both sets of fans. This was a huge surprise because when the All Blacks usually lose, the whole country goes into a state of mourning… Town was amazing that night…

So on Sunday when I got up and sorted we drove out to Waihi to the beach, but it started raining, so we didn’t get much done there or stay there very long… We then went to Paeroa which is where one of NZ’s infamous soft drinks is made. So we got a drink and an ice cream and then headed home to the flat to rest…

What an awesome weekend… Coming up is the last week of term so it’s going to be manic in the boarding house… Can’t wait!! NOT!!

Having problems with blog atm... Videos will be in a separate post !

Te Aroha (Love you)

Rotorua

Well, i can see why the Kiwi's call Rotorua, Rotovegas !! Its sooo over commercialised !!
I mean, its a nice enough place i suppose, and the bubbling mud pools at the sides of the roads are excitin when you first see them, but after that, seriously, once you have seen one bubbling mud pool, you have seen them all !! And the place STINKS because of all the sulphur in the area.. I mean it was a good day out and definitley a must do for tourists, but defo only once.. On the outskirts of the town there are some gorgeous lakes that will be amazing in the summer, so will defo be going back then, but not see anything but the lakes !! haha...
While we were in Rotorua, we had a bit of fun though !! We went on the luges... Which are like little karts you sit on and go down tracks on the mountain, you get to the top in a cable car type thing and then ski lift chair thingys... It was soooo much fun !
Once we were back in Hamilton, it was a leave weekend, so all the kids had gone home, and we had a couple of mates over for drinks before we went out on the town !!
I had a tattoo done the other day.. Its soooo cute, its a little lizard on the top of my foot, i have called it Pedro !! It didnt hurt as much as i thought it would do... It kinda felt like a paper cut over and over again, and it was kinda hot ! But defo worth it... I love Pedro Lorenzo Brunning !! The newest member of my family !! haha... xxxxx

Duty Weekend...

Ok so i was on duty this past weekend... You may think this is difficult, and feel sorry for me, but really there is no need to!
Out of the 50 boarders that are here during the week, only about 8/9 stay over the weekend, and at the moment rehearsals for the school play (Guys and Dolls) is intense, so most of them are at that all day as opposed to whatever we are doing for the weekend.
So on Saturday, we spent some time in the school tech lab, where they made various bits and pieces which didnt resemble anything at all !! Then as the sun was gracing us with its presence, we headed out to Hamilton Gardens for the afternoon ! Hamilton Gardens are beautiful, there are about 5/6 different themed gardens, like Indian, Italian, English Flower Garden etc... They were so nice when we went, and its winter here, so they are definitely going to be the place to go to just chill out in the summer... A bit like York's museum gardens were to me back home ! haha..
So that was that, then Saturday night we watched a film called Inkheart which was gooooood! Loved that...
Sunday morning, the hire minibus arrived and after breakfast we departed for Waitomo Caves... In the bus on the way there, we noticed that of the 11 of us in the bus there were 5 different nationalities.. So we had a National Anthem singing contest.. and were treated to good old 'God Save the Queen'.. The Thai National Anthem, The Korean National Anthem, The South African National Anthem (sung in Afrikaans), and of course the New Zealand National Anthem... Of course majority voted and the Kiwis won !!! So, Waitomo caves were amazing.. Basically there is a maze of underground caves, you can go to different caves to do different activities. Because we had 9 kids with us, we went on the most sedate one, which involved us having a guided tour of the cave 35m underground, then taking a short boat ride on the river that runs through the caves and back out into day light again. During the boat ride, if you looked up onto the ceiling of the caves, all you could see were glow worms... It was sooo nice..
On the way back we stopped to get ice cream... I ticked off something on my list of things to do in NZ, by ordering the native 'hokey pokey' ice cream... which is toffee flavoured ice cream with bits of crunchie bar in it.. It's soooo good ! Next on the list is banana choc chip which was almost my choice !!
Other than that, not been up to much apart from work... It's a leave weekend this weekend, so will be going out somewhere.. Maybe Rotorua, take a trip to 'Hell on Earth'... That should be exciting...

Pictures will be coming sooooon !

Wow

I forgot to tell you all, each school out here has its own Haka, and before each rugby match, even for the 12 year olds here, they do their haka !!
Its amazin... I mean when i watch the All Blacks do theirs i get shivers... But these kids are amazing... Just look at the video.. Sorry about the really bad shaking.. haha.. This is the Hereworth School Haka. The rugby team start, and then the rest of the boys in the school are stood behind and join in !

Kua haere au. Xx

Hereworth

Well after a week off school bein ill with a sickness bug, I was back on form to support the rugby, soccer and hockey teams as they went on their annual trip across the mountains to the East Coast of NZ, to Napier!
We travelled in 2 coaches, and with a half hour stop for toilet break and lunch at Lake Taupo the journey took 5 hours... !! 5 hours in a coach with thirty 10 year old boys !! It was interestin to say the least... !
The coach that i wasnt on got pulled over by the police for speadin, and when the police man found out that he actually knew the drivers brother, he gave him a $30 fine, when it should of been about $120 !! Its all about who you know down here apparantly... haha
So Lake Taupo for lunch.... The weather wasnt great, but it was still beautiful.. The lake just goes on for as far as you can see... Its HUGE !! And coincidently is where IMNZ takes place... ! Hmmm who am i startin to sound like !! Thanks Daddy and K1 club for gettin me hooked !!
So back on the bus for the final couple of hours over the mountains (which have roads twistier and steeper than those goin up Troodos for those of you who are readin this and know what im talkin about), this was difficult for the coach and on many occasions i did actually fear for my life as the bus started rolling backwards... :S
When we got to Napier we went to the Aquarium, which was quite cool... Kinda small tho !
So once all the kids had been dropped off at their billet families for the night, the staff all met with the Hereworth staff for drinks in the staffroom, and then when that was over we went to check in to the motel we were stayin at...
When they told me we were stayin in a motel i thought of all the naff motel things you see at the side of the motorway in all the American movies, but the motels here are awesome...
I had a huge room to myself, which had a Double King size bed, Kitchen area, Bathroom with spa bath, Huge tv with sky, and another room with 2 single beds in!! I paid nothing, cuz i am now staff which is awesome, but now i know where all mummy and daddys money went when i went on school trips with Pock... Hmmmmm ;)
That night we went out for a meal at the most amazin steak house i have ever been to in my life... It was gorjusss ! Then a couple of the teachers and Michael (the other gappie) came back to my room and we played cards.. Im gettin better !! haha...
The next day we had the fixtures... The 1st team rugby lost 66-0 !! But the Hereworth boys were huge, I would say they could walk straight into the Pock 2nd team who are all between the age of 16-18, and these kids were only 12... They were massive.. The 2nd team rugby lost 33-0, there was no excuse there im afraid.. Just bad rugby.. The 1st team soccer lost 3-0 and the 2nd team lost 4-2... and the 1st team hockey lost 1-0 !! It wasnt a great day out for Southwell, but everyone had fun !!
Then the journey back... It was quieter, but still with its highlights of schoolboy naughtiness... Like one kid who thought it would be hilarious to throw a drinks bottle still half full out of the window in the roof of the bus... None of the staff saw this, but the bottle was close to hittin the windscreen of the car drivin behind us, who just happened to be one of the kids parents who had travelled to watch the matches !! UNLUCKY !!

So that was an interestin couple of days... Not really much else happenin apart from the fact that i am now lookin to buy a car... So will keep you posted on that !!

Auckland...

Sooooo, this weekend Laura and I headed up north to Auckland ! It was an hour and a half in the car and the views on the way were amazing !! Seriously... Everywhere you look beautiful green hills... Springs arrival is imminent, as told by the blossoms on the trees, the baby lambs and calves in the fields and the daffodils growing everywhere... Hmmmm sounds like Wales ! haha... Nah seriously tho !! Its gorgeous !!
So once we got to Auckland, we went straight to the Auckland Museum.. It was really cool cuz it showed you how New Zeland came about (because it is one of the youngest countries in the world) and other things, like where the Maori tribes originated and how the first people came to settle on the islands... And then there were war memorials, much like those in Britain, for the ANZAC's (Australia and New Zealand Army Corps) who died in many different wars... There was much more than i thought !
Then once we had finished in the museum, we headed into downtown Auckland, and up the SkyTower... This is one of Aucklands main attractions... Its a big tower which you go up in a lift.. The lift is scary man !! Its like Charlie and the chocolate factory !! The lift is glass, with a glass floor, so you can see yourself shootin up into the air !! Wow... Then we stop at the viewing platform which is all inside, and is at 280m !! Here there are also glass parts on the floor which you can stand on and look down onto the city below !! Scary !!! Then we went up another 18m to the highest viewing platform.. Thankfully no glass up here !! Just beautiful scenery !! There is a 360 degree view of the city !! The harbour on one side and the city itself on the other... Gorgeous !
We then drove to One Tree Hill to watch the sun set... The tree isnt actually there any more cuz some crazy protestor guy cut it down ( he is now in prison for it), they are apparantly growin a new one to put up there... So that was that... There are some pics on facebook, but it looks like i have been photoshopped in!! I can promise you i havent !! haha... 100% real life..
On sunday, we went to Auckland Zoo which was awesome... Im 18 and Laura is 21 and we were more excited than most of the kids there who were bein dragged round by their parents !! Crazy stuff....

Hmmmm i think thats about it for now... Loves xxxxx

One week down !

Hello everybody !!
So, one week down, and things are lookin good !
I am now sleepin through the night, not wakin up at 3am !! So thats the best thing..
Havent got a teaching timetable until monday, so this past week i have just been helpin out when and where i can, and when teachers need me...
Have been explorin the local city, Hamilton... Its the fourth largest city in NZ, and the largest inland city...
The weather is ok, sunny every day, but not all day ! haha... It usually pours down at night....
There was one massive storm the other night, where i actually thought the rain was goin to break the window it was so powerful !!
I woke up thismornin, and went out to watch the kids play in their sports fixtures... Even though they are only 12 (oldest) they are awesome at rugby... It really is a life style out here as opposed to just bein a sport back home in the UK !!
On the subject of rugby, the All Blacks beat Australia the other week... Thank God for that... I have been told that the country almost goes into a state of mourning when their rugby team loses... We will see tomorrow !! haha... SA are gonna kick ass !!
Im on duty in the boardin house this weekend... So i think we are goin to the cinema tomorrow, to see Harry Potter.... EXCITIN !!! genuinely am excited !! haha...
Will write a bit more once the teachin has started...

First Post

Well, I figured since i will be out of the country, and infact on the opposite side of the world, antipodean to the UK, for the next year, i would be like daddy, and create a blog, so that's what i have done.
I thought it would be an easy way for family and friends to get an over view of what i am up to all the way down south in New Zealand.

For those of you who don't know, i will be in Southwell School, Hamilton, New Zealand, working as a gap tutor for the next year of my life. During the holidays i will be travelling around the South Pacific and imemrsing myself into the culture and way of life that many Britons admire and crave so much. I'll let you know if all that we hear is true !!

I will be setting myself various tasks to check off of my list while i am in NZ, a list of which will follow, but if you guys feel there is something i should do, either you know from experience or you think i will enjoy, then feel free to let me know.. Im sure you can comment on here or something..

My flights are now booked, visa obtained, and job ready for me to depart on the 14th July...

All i have to get through now is a little thing called....... A LEVELS !!!!

Will write back when i am closer to departure date..

Love Charli !!

ps. Will have think of an embarrasing catch phrase to sign off with, again to copy daddy's 'train smart' !! haha.. xx
